Reeves and co-driver Rhianon Smyth stormed their way through today’s six wet and slippery competition stages. The brother and sister duo will start tomorrow’s second and final heat in eighth position overall.
Competing in the 'Modern' category of the event, Brendo's Mazda3 MPS is a standard vehicle with roll cage, race seats and harnesses fitted, and is up against highly modified Subaru Impreza WRXs, Mitsubishi Lancer Evos and Nissan Skyline GTRs. Neverthless, Brendo's talent has seen him finish the day in eighth place overall, an outstanding result.
The TTC, which officially kicks off tomorrow around Tasmania’s North West, is the penultimate round of the 2008 Australian Rally Championship (ARC) and the first full tarmac round in the history of the series.
Having never driven the car before today, Brendo was keen to get some kilometres under his belt to get a feel for the car.
Mazda, the country’s top-selling vehicle importer, will rally a turbocharged Mazda3 MPS in the Tasmanian Tarmac Challenge held from October 3-5. The event, held in the Tasmania’s North West, is the penultimate round of the 2008 ARC. Victorian brother and sister rally combo Brendan Reeves and Rhianon Smyth will pilot the 190kW turbocharged Mazda3 MPS in the event’s Showroom category.
Brendo, and co-driver Rhianon Smyth, will contest the 2WD Showroom Category of the event in a Mazda 3 MPS with the full support of Mazda Motorsport Australia. As one of only two manufacturer teams entered in the rally, Brendo is rapt to have been offered the drive and is really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the nimble MPS. “I’ve done a few tarmac rallies before, including this event last year, so I am fairly familiar with the roads. Tarmac rallying is a lot different to gravel rallying and it will be great to get back out on the black stuff and see how we go,†he said. “The MPS is a fantastic car to drive and hopefully we’ll be able to thank Mazda for their support by bringing the car home with a great result.†CHECK OUT BRENDAN'S PHOTO GALLERY FOR MORE MAZDA3 MPS PHOTOS
