Brendan to tackle Bega Valley Rally this weekend

The South Coast of New South Wales will see plenty of rally action this weekend with the running of the Bega Valley Rally.  The event will see Brendan Reeves behind the wheel of Datzilla, his highly modified Datsun 1600, with regular co-driver Kate Catford in the co-driver’s seat. They will compete alongside a huge entry list of 84 crews.

Two days of competition, consisting of 16 stages and 245 kilometres of competitive stages, await the Victorian pair who are using the event as a further shakedown for Datzilla ahead of the Alpine Rally later in the year.

Since their last outing at the Mitta Mountain Rally, Reeves has spent time fixing the issues they encountered with Datzilla, and fitting a light bar for what will be the car’s first night event.  Last weekend he did a short night test in the car to check the performance of the newly-fitted STEDI driving lights and was very happy with the results.

Reeves will start as Car 5 on the road and is confident of a good showing this weekend but will face stiff competition, with Jack Monkhouse (Datsun 180B SSS) and Nathan Quinn (Mazda RX2) likely to be his strongest rivals.  All three will be competing for points in the East Coast Classic Rally Series.

The Bega Valley Rally will start on Saturday, 11 June at 1pm with day one’s stages to be held on Shire roads around Bega with the night stages set to throw an extra challenge to drivers.  Competitors will then move south to Eden ahead of Sunday’s stages, with the first car expected to finish around 3pm.
