Round 2 of the Victorian Rally Championship (VRC), the Ada River Rally, got off to a promising start for Brendan Reeves and Aiden O’Halloran last weekend.
With no chance to check stage times between stages, Reeves was happy to finish the Heat in sixth outright and second 2WD, and was looking to improve his position in Heat 2. Unfortunately his plans didn’t come to fruition, though, as, during the first of the afternoon’s stages, the mounting bolts from the drive by wire motor fell out, resulting in a loss of throttle. Reeves and O’Halloran limped through the transport stage but used up their late running time trying to fix the issue, forcing their retirement from the event.
Despite his disappointment at not finishing, Reeves really enjoyed the event, commenting that there was a good mix of road surfaces - from fast to tight and twisty - and the event was really well run. Reeves’ stand-in co-driver, Aiden O’Halloran, slotted into the car well, and his knowledge of the roads used was an added benefit. Improving the set up of the Datsun is the focus for Reeves ahead of his next event, the Marysville Stages, round 3 of the VRC, on May 16.
