Brendan Reeves will return to the World Rally Championship (WRC) this weekend when he performs gravel crew duties for Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino at Rally Spain.
Block and Gelsomino will drive a new generation Ford Fiesta from M-Sport in the penultimate round of this year’s World Rally Championship this weekend, four years since they last competed at the event.
Rally Spain is a mixed surface event with Friday’s stages being run on gravel roads and Saturday and Sunday’s stages run on tarmac. Reeves’ role is to drive the tarmac stages before competition starts each day and advise Block of any changes to the road surface since he drove the stages in reconnaissance.
In tarmac events, loose stones are often thrown onto the road by other competitors, changing the surface from when the original stage notes were written by the crew. The information Reeves provides to Block will be vital to help him adapt his driving to any recent changes in the road conditions.
Reeves’ co-driver for the gravel crew role will be his sister, Rhianon Gelsomino, who is also the wife of Block’s co-driver, Alex Gelsomino.
“I’m rapt to be helping Ken and Alex this weekend with their gravel notes,†Reeves said. “Rally Spain is a great event and I’m really looking forward to contributing to their performance this weekend.â€
