Brendan getting plenty of seat time ahead of Rally Australia

PDFPrintE-mail

Whilst it’s still just over a month until his next competitive outing at Kennards Hire Rally Australia, Brendan Reeves is not lacking time behind the wheel.

He spent this past weekend working for Renault Australia at Victoria’s Phillip Island race track.  Reeves drove the high-powered Renault Megane Trophy around the circuit, with some of Renault’s best technicians beside him.

The Renault Megane Trophy’s specs include:

  • V6 400hp engine
  • 998kg
  • Sadev 6 speed gearbox with paddle shift

To say he was impressed with the car, which ran faultlessly all weekend, is an understatement.

After a weekend on the track, Reeves now heads to Spain where he and sister Rhianon Gelsomino will be working for Hyundai Motorsport, and in particular, Hayden Paddon and John Kennard.

Their role is to be gravel crew for Saturday and Sunday’s tarmac stages at the Spanish round of the World Rally Championship.

Reeves and Gelsomino will do one pass of the roads in a road car just before competition starts. The aim is to add information to the pace notes that Paddon and Kennard have written.

Often gravel has been thrown onto the tarmac since the original notes were written, making the surface loose for the drivers.  The gravel crew’s notes are essential to the team so that they have the most up to date information about the road conditions.

After Rally Spain, Reeves will return to Australia to finish his preparations for Rally Australia which takes place in November on the Coffs Coast in northern NSW.
