Brendan third after Day 1 of Rally Germany

PDFPrintE-mail

After Day 1 of Rally Germany, Brendan and Rhianon sit in third place in the WRC Academy class.  Despite an 'off' on the first stage of the day which cost them around 20 seconds, Brendan drove consistently for the remainder of the day's stages and took advantage as others encountered trouble, finishing the day in third place.

Asked about his efforts on Day 1, Brendan said, “This afternoon has been much better. We had a clear run on the first stage [SS4]. OK, we lost a little bit of time to the leaders but I was happy with the run because the first time through [SS1] was an absolute shocker!

“The second stage [SS5] was good as well, with just a few small mistakes in the hairpins. And then the third stage [SS6] was good. It was our first time through there and I thought we nearly had a stage win but then Alastair [Fisher] came through at the last minute – we wound him up before the stage so maybe we shouldn’t have done that!

“We’re third now, and everyone will be pushing hard tomorrow. Panzerplatte will be crazy and, seeing no split times, we’ll have to push hard. But we have ten good tyres so that’s good – we’ll just have to see what happens.”

Day 2 consists of six stages - three stages each repeated twice - including the 46 kilometre Panzerplatte stage through the Baumholder military training ground.
