Brendan returns to Europe this weekend

PDFPrintE-mail

Brendan will return to Europe again this weekend to attend the next FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy, a program for which he was selected, at the end of 2011.

The workshop, to be held near Vienna, will this time focus on road safety and will assist the young race and rally drivers to learn basic techniques in order to teach road safety skills to different target groups.

From Austria, Brendan will fly to Greece where he'll be joined by Rhianon in time for the Acropolis Rally. The Acropolis Rally, which is round 2 of the WRC Academy, kicks off on May 24, and after finishing second at the opening round in Portugal, the brother and sister team are confident of another strong result.

The WRC Academy is a one-make series for drivers under the age of 25 with all six rounds being held in Europe. Brendan and Rhianon made their debut in the series last year, finishing fifth outright, and with the experience they gained in 2011 added to their already significant talent, the pair are aiming to win the championship this year.

Last year's WRC Academy expenses were significantly funded for the pair as they had won one of six scholarships from Pirelli to compete in the Academy. This year, however, they've been forced to find their own funding to lease a Ford Fiesta R2, pay event entry fees, flights, accommodation and fund their own testing. It's a big ask for the Wedderburn siblings but Rhianon has been a driving force in finding funding for the duo through a number of unique iniatives including the Brendan Reeves Supporters Club and sponsors paying to have their business logos or personal messages on the roof of their car.

The Acropolis rally starts on Thursday, May 24.
