Brendan survives treacherous weather to hold second place

After battling appalling weather conditions on Day 2 of Rally Portugal, Brendan and Rhianon sit in second place in the WRC Academy.

The weather conditions caused chaos on Friday's morning stages, with at least seven crews forced to retire from the rally due to crashing, slipping off the road or their cars ingesting water. To actually get to the mid-day service was a feat in itself.

Of the morning's three stages, only two were run with weather and road conditions causing the cancellation of the final morning stage and all three afternoon stages.

With just three stages to be completed by WRC Academy competitors on Saturday, Brendan is planning to drive to suit the weather conditions with the aim of a top two finish.

“The stages were tremendously slippery and the fog was crazy!" he said. "The grip was really inconsistent so it was difficult to know when to push."

"I made the car a lot softer for the second stage [SS6] to try and get some more grip but we had a spin and lost some time. We are still in second but Pontus [Tidemand] is not too far behind, so we want to try and keep our position tomorrow. There is still another day and a lot can happen, second would be good but first would be awesome - we will see what happens.”
