Brendan and Rhianon will start Day 2 of Rally Sardinia in 9th place in the WRC Academy after being forced into retirement yesterday. Day 1 of the rally saw a high attrition rate with only five of the 17 Academy crews making it to the end of the first day. Of the 17, six are unable to re-start today due to extensive damage to their Ford Fiesta R2s. Brendan and Rhianon were forced to withdraw from Day 1 when their Fiesta's oil cooler split on the transport stage between stages 3 and 4. The pair were in third place at the time. Extensive computer analysis yesterday indicates that no damage was caused to the Fiesta's engine so the pair will re-join the rally today under Superally rules. "It was a disappointing day yesterday," Brendan said, "but there's still a lot to play for today. With bonus points awarded for each stage win there are plenty of points up for grabs so we will go out today and give it our best shot. "Anything can happen in rallying - we saw that yesterday and on Day 2 of Rally Portugal - so we aim to have a real crack today and see what we can come away with."
