Brendan and Rhianon have arrived in Salou, Spain, in preparation for the Pirelli Star Driver Shootout which starts today (Thursday).  After arriving in Spain just over a week ago, the pair have been taking in the sights of Barcelona whilst acclimatizing to a new time zone.

Brendo is one of sixteen young drivers from around the world who will contest the Global Shootout for the chance to earn a place in the 2011 Rally Academy and a fully-funded drive in selected World Rally Championship events next year.  He earned his place after winning the Asia-Pacific region’s nomination.

The Shootout, which concludes on Sunday, consists of driving tests as well as fitness and media assessments.  Competitors will drive Ford Fiesta R2s and will cover four stages – one gravel and one tarmac, each repeated twice.  Rhianon will call the pacenotes for Brendo.  Up to six winners will be announced at an official FIA media conference at the conclusion of Rally Spain on Sunday.

“We are getting all set and excited about the experience,” Brendo said.  “We will have to be flat out right from the start as there are only two stages done twice - one being gravel and one tarmac. All four stages will be done in gravel set up.”

“I've never driven an R2 Fiesta before but I've heard lots about them and it's all been good,” he added.
